Social and Emotional Learning – The Resilience Project
At Lara Lake Primary School, we are committed to supporting the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of every student. As part of this commitment, we implement The Resilience Project (TRP) as our whole-school Social and Emotional Learning program.
The Resilience Project is a nationally recognised, evidence-based program that helps students develop positive mental health through the key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM). Through engaging classroom lessons, practical activities and meaningful discussions, students build lifelong skills that support resilience, emotional regulation, positive relationships and overall wellbeing.
The Resilience Project also incorporates the Victorian Curriculum’s Respectful Relationships education, ensuring students develop the knowledge, skills and values to build healthy relationships, demonstrate respect and inclusion, understand emotions, manage conflict, and contribute positively to their school and wider community.
At Lara Lake, Social and Emotional Learning is embedded across the school. Students participate in regular TRP lessons, while staff engage in ongoing professional learning to create a consistent, supportive and positive learning environment. The program provides a shared language for wellbeing that is reinforced in classrooms, the playground and throughout everyday school life.
We recognise that wellbeing is strongest when schools and families work together. Families have access to The Resilience Project’s Parent and Carer Hub, which offers practical strategies, activities and resources to support the GEM principles at home and strengthen the partnership between school and family.
By nurturing gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, we aim to empower every student with the confidence, resilience and social skills they need to thrive both at school and beyond.
