Auslan

At Lara Lake Primary School, all students from Prep to Grade 6 participate in weekly Auslan lessons with their classroom teacher.

We use the comprehensive Auslan Education Services program, which provides a structured and engaging approach to learning Southern Dialect Auslan. Students learn signing skills for a broad range of topics including greetings, weather, farm and zoo animals, emotions and things around the home.

Students develop practical signing skills alongside an understanding and appreciation of Auslan as a language and the Deaf community. Through regular lessons and opportunities to practise and apply their learning, students build confidence in communicating through sign language while developing their cultural awareness, respect for diversity and understanding of different ways people communicate.
