Supporting Learning Through Technology
At Lara Lake Primary School, we believe that digital technologies are an important tool for enhancing teaching and learning. Technology is thoughtfully integrated into our curriculum to enrich learning experiences, encourage creativity, strengthen collaboration and prepare students with the digital skills they need for the future.
Technology is used to complement high-quality teaching—it does not replace it. Our classrooms embrace a balanced approach where students engage with both digital and traditional learning tools to develop essential knowledge, skills and understanding.
Technology in the Classroom
Students have access to iPads and other digital technologies that support learning across all curriculum areas. These devices are used purposefully to:
- Enhance literacy and numeracy learning
- Support inquiry and research
- Create, design and problem-solve
- Collaborate with peers and teachers
- Develop creativity through multimedia and digital projects
- Provide opportunities for differentiated and personalised learning
- Strengthen communication and presentation skills
- Support assessment and provide timely feedback
Technology is integrated when it adds value to learning and helps students engage more deeply with the curriculum.
A Balanced Approach
At Lara Lake Primary School, we value blended learning. While digital technologies provide many opportunities, they are balanced with explicit teaching, hands-on experiences, reading, writing, discussion, practical investigations and outdoor learning.
Traditional learning tools such as books, pencils, paper and manipulatives remain an important part of everyday classroom practice. Technology is used intentionally to complement—not replace—these experiences.
Building Safe and Responsible Digital Citizens
Helping students become safe, respectful and responsible users of technology is a key priority.
Students are explicitly taught digital citizenship skills, including:
- Staying safe online
- Protecting personal information
- Respectful online communication
- Recognising appropriate online behaviour
- Understanding digital footprints
- Thinking critically when using online information
We believe these skills are most effective when taught in partnership with families and encourage parents and carers to reinforce safe online practices at home.
Secure Learning Environments
Students in Years 3–6 access secure Department of Education Google Workspace for Education accounts, enabling them to collaborate, create and store their learning safely.
All school devices are centrally managed by our Information Technology team using device management software. This ensures applications remain current, devices are secure, and students have access to the digital resources they need while maintaining a safe online learning environment.
Through purposeful use of technology, Lara Lake Primary School equips students with the confidence, creativity and digital capabilities needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
