Visual Arts
At Lara Lake Primary School, the Visual Arts program inspires students to explore their creativity, develop artistic skills and express their ideas with confidence. Through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, students build an appreciation for the arts while developing imagination, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Our specialist Visual Arts program is delivered to all students from Foundation to Year 6 in one of our dedicated Art Rooms, providing a rich and inspiring environment where creativity can flourish.
Our Visual Arts Program
Students participate in a sequential, skills-based program that develops artistic knowledge and techniques as they progress through the school.
Throughout their learning, students:
- explore a wide variety of art materials, tools and techniques
- develop skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, collage, construction and mixed media
- experiment with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks
- create original artworks that reflect their own ideas, experiences and creativity
- learn to plan, refine and evaluate their artistic work
- build confidence in expressing themselves through visual art
Learning Through Creativity
Students are encouraged to think creatively and take artistic risks through open-ended learning experiences that promote imagination, curiosity and innovation.
As part of the program, students learn about:
- Colour theory
- Line, shape, texture and pattern
- Perspective and composition
- Visual conventions and design principles
- Contemporary and historical artists
- Diverse artistic styles and cultures
Students also develop the ability to reflect on and discuss their own artwork and the work of others using appropriate visual arts language.
Art Across the Curriculum
Visual Arts is an important part of learning at Lara Lake Primary School and often connects with classroom inquiry topics and whole-school events.
Students have opportunities to:
- Create artworks that complement classroom learning
- Contribute to school performances through set design and props
- Participate in collaborative art projects
- Celebrate cultural and community events through creative expression
- Showcase their work throughout the school
Our school proudly displays student artwork across classrooms, corridors and shared learning spaces, celebrating the creativity and talents of every learner. A highlight of our school is the beautiful student and staff-created mosaic at the front of the school, inspired by the unique birdlife of the Lara region.
Through Visual Arts, we encourage every student to explore, imagine, create and take pride in expressing their unique ideas and perspectives.
