A healthy balance of the sun's ultraviolet radiation (UV) exposure is important for health. A little bit of UV is good for vitamin D. But too much of the sun's UV can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer.
Whenever UV levels reach 3 and above, use the 5 SunSmart steps. When UV levels are below 3 sun protection isn't needed unless in alpine regions, near highly reflective surfaces like snow or outdoors for the day.
At Lara Lake PS we have a Sunsmart Policy. It exists so that staff and students can achieve a healthy balance of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure.
Being SunSmart means you have an understanding that sun protection is necessary and important for health to ensure a balanced exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
