| Bike Ed
Bike Ed is an accredited Traffic Education Program for Primary School children. At Lara Lake, students in Years 3 and 4 are involved in practical and theory sessions over an intensive two week course. Students progress through three levels of competency, involving bicycle handling, riding skills, shared footway riding and finally, on-road riding. LLPS supports Government initiatives which encourage students to be active on the way to and from school. Ride2school days are held once per term and a ‘hands up survey’ indicates improved healthy active habits are changing.

| The Buddy Program
The Buddy Program, like the Peer Support Program, is a structured human relations program where Prep students meet each week with their Year 5 buddy who leads them through an activity. The Buddy and Peer Support Programs have been most successful in developing positive relationships between younger and older students in our school. Students participate in activities based around the theme that they are working on. It is a very creative time. The Preps can also easily spot a friendly buddy in the school yard by looking for the brightly coloured buddy badge worn by our Year 5 students. Already some Preps have been eagerly assisted in helping them feel safe, happy and secure at this very important and special time.

Students participate in environmental walks, study marine ecosystems, enjoy initiative games and challenging adventure activities. Phillip Island is famous for its penguins and seagull rookery. We visit these educational sites. The Three/Four camp is the first school excursion where students sleep away from home. | Student Enrichment Program
The Student Enrichment Program (SEP) at Lara Lake PS seeks to identify and give additional support outside the classroom to students who have exceptional skills or potential in one or more learning areas. It aims to provide stimulating and enriching programs, giving opportunities to highly talented and gifted students to work both independently and collaboratively with like-minded peers on extension activities. It encourages students to solve problems creatively, using divergent thinking processes and tools. SEP is provided for Junior Department, Middle and Senior Department students. The program for each hour-session is created by a teacher who has a strong interest in the particular learning area being undertaken. These sessions are held weekly and may continue for 6 weeks, a term or a semester. Feedback and reporting from teacher, students and parents is an important finale to each program and to facilitate future planning.

| You Can Do It
Lara Lake launched this whole school social and emotional program in 2006. Since then the foundations of ORGANISATION, CONFIDENCE, GETTING ALONG, RESILIENCE and PERSISTENCE have become embedded into the curriculum. Behaviour specific feedback encourages students to develop positive Habits of the Mind. These HOMs are: CONFIDENCE- being independent, accepting myself, taking risks GETTING ALONG- playing by the rules, thinking first, social responsibility, being tolerant of others ORGANISATION- planning my time, setting goals PERSISTENCE- working tough, giving effort, I can do it. RESILIENCE- self control, other people’s point of view, emotional intelligence. Our weekly whole school assembly acknowledges students who have displayed these qualities during their week.
